BIRTHDAY CAKE - SNAIL CAKE

Snail Cake

I was asked to do a cake for a friend's little girl's 3rd Birthday and she wanted a cake in the shape of a snail - a first for me.

Having made three levels of chocolate sponge cake, I filled them with chocolate ganache.  To make the shell, I turned the round sponges on their edge, having cut one small section off a little bit in order that it could stand up.  I then covered it with more chocolate ganache.

The head was made out of rice krispies and marshmallows and then covered in ganache and then fondant icing.  The body was then covered in fondant icing.

A small tail was made with fondant and the snail was placed on a cake board covered in green fondant icing.

The cake was airbrushed to give a darker colour in the shell part.

I also decorated the board with leaves, flower and a ladybird.
